Demonstrator for January will be Jeff Roberts
Jeff has demonstrated his skill at turning canes several times in the past. For this month's demonstration he will be showing how he makes 'laying tools.' People who do needlepoint use these tools to ensure a thread or multiple threads are pulled correctly, especially flat or ribbon like threads. The point is inserted under the threads when pulling taut, so the flat threads can be untwisted if necessary.
This project is a good way to use small scraps. Jeff will be using the skew and roughing gouge. He can make these pretty quickly so he will probably sand and finish during the demo. Then he will demonstrate the use of the Beall Buffing system. There are lots of techniques, methods and tricks doing this that will apply to many other projects.
Welcome to South Metro Wood Turners. We are a growing group of woodturning and wood working enthusiasts. We meet the 3rd Tuesday of each month with multiple events throughout the year.
We welcome visitors to our meetings who can take part in discussion, see guest turner demonstrators as well as having time to mingle and see the latest member creations.
Come see us and find out how you too can turn a piece of wood into something beautiful.
Our next meeting will be Tuesday, January 21, at 6:30 at John Beatty's shop.
